COME FROM AWAY

Post by CJ-Rochester »

COME FROM AWAY is a brilliant new musical, which I saw during its pre-Broadway run in Toronto. It received rave reviews in Toronto and quickly sold out the rest of its fun. It moves to Broadway in February 2017. Anyone going to New York next year will definitely want to see it.

The story is about the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, where on 9/11, 38 planes carrying 7000 people were diverted from their US destinations. The people of Newfoundland welcomed all of these strangers and hosted them for several days until US airspace was cleared again. It's a fast-paced, heartwarming, sometimes funny, musical.

There are only 12 people in the cast but it often felt like 50. It's very much an ensemble show, but everyone has places where they stand out. Joel Hatch (George from Broadway BETM) plays the mayor of the town. Everyone should put this show on their short list for when it comes to Broadway!
