I hope it stays in Toronto for a long, long time. But when I checked the ticketing site yesterday, there is still nothing offered past July 10. I thought surely they would have released a new block of tickets by now.

I've been visiting the ticket site weekly in the hopes they release another block. I'd like to get in a trip to Toronto but between the upcoming London trip and my work load this summer, I wouldn't be able to make it up there until late August at the earliest.

Congratulations on 100 performances to the cast/crew of BETM Toronto.

It should be noted, though, if one is to compare apples to apples, that generally previews aren't counted in official numbers (i.e. BETM Broadway - 1000, BETM London - 2500 did not include previews in either location).

The official opening night of BETM Toronto was March 1, 2011 --- the month of February was considered previews (32 shows).

Apparently not counting previews in official counts is a long established practice in the world of professional theatre. I didn't make up the rule and, in fact, I don't agree with it. In my opinion, a performance in front of a paying audience is a performance, be it called a "preview" or an "official" show.

Just saying...

The April 29, 2011 issue of E-Stage, Mirvish Productions online newsletter, has features on the extension of BETM Toronto through the summer of 2011 and news of a special meal inspired by BETM, coming up on May 12, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.

Originally there was to be two tours, 1st and 2nd. The first was designed for long runs in major cities and initially they talked about Chicago, Toronto, San Francisco, Los Angeles, in that order and the stops in each of those places to be measured in months, rather than weeks. At the time the article was written that you cited, it was unclear to the tour planners whether the show in Chicago would become firmly entrenched there and go beyond the January, 2011 end date they originally envisioned. If that happened, they would have to mount a separate production in Toronto where, as the article states, they committed to opening in Feburary, 2011.

Tour 2 was to be a more traditional tour, with typical stops to be of a 2-3 week duration in smaller markets around the US.

Then Chicago closed earlier than planned and the powers that be re-thought the original scheme and decided that only one tour could be supported, given the economy and other factors. So the 2nd tour schedule was re-worked and SF and LA added to that itinerary. After Chicago closed, there would be a month and a half break and most of that cast would move to Toronto for a stand alone production there that was to be managed/produced by Mirvish Productions. While not saying so anywhere in print that I've found, the thought is that once Toronto eventually closes, that production/cast will be disbanded and just the one National Tour would remain (the one currently playing Tempe). Some personnel could conceivably be offered roles either on Broadway or the Tour if such openings were available.

I hope that answers your questions, Shimmyshimmy.

Broadwayworld.com did an interview with theater star/singer Colm Wilkinson during which he was asked for his impressions about the Toronto theater scene. He had some very nice things to say about BETM and especially about Cesar Corrales.

That's a great photo! It definitely deserves a "like". :D

Matt Trent was a new ensemble member last week when I was there. His name was in the cast insert slips. The interesting part is his credits include being in the Broadway, Chicago, & Sydney casts of BETM. With such a long association with the show I thought his name would have come up in previous forum postings, but have been unable to find any discussion about him.

I assume he is an ensemble member, as I have never seen him listed as anything else. Unless something comes up about a specific ensemble member to warrant a separate thread for him/her under Current Cast, you wouldn't find one on here for him, although there might be some references to him in the Ensemble thread.
