A quote from that article:

'There is the possibility that the tour was cancelled in favor of granting rights to regional theaters like Music Theatre of Wichita to mount their own productions, he said. Or, rights may have been withdrawn because a movie version is in the works.'

A movie version is in the works? Fans of the successful 2000 film may find that puzzling.

I think the writer of the article might be referring to the long rumored (or perhaps wished for) possibility of a movie version of Billy Elliot The Musical the stage show, as opposed to the 2000 film.

Concidering regional production were already announced I highly doubt that...and the movie I more then doubt(truly wishful thinking).

NC Theatre in Raleigh still has BETM on its schedule. As I noted above, it is "produced by the NC Theatre Company," which I believe is a good indication that it will be locally produced. To add to that, I see that they are soon to be holding auditions for this summer's production of "The Little Mermaid." They will be auditioning both equity and non-equity actors, not only in Raleigh on April 6, but also in NYC on April 10 by agent appointment:

I further note from that page that any applicants under 18 must be registered students at the NC Theatre Conservatory for the Performing Arts, and may only audition with permission. Here is info about the conservatory:

I expect that we will see a similar call for BETM auditions around three months before the show is scheduled to run, and here is the answer to where they expect to get their kids for the show:

Altered Miami Broadway Show schedule missing BETM as of Marc

Post by tzwicky »

OK, there's a gap in the Theatre Season at Miami's Arscht Theatre where BETM was briefly listed on the schedule.

So there's just a gap in the schedule from June 2 to September 29. I guess a show or shows could be plugged into that 3 month gap, but I suspect not.

It's a decent season for fans of well known popular shows (like "Wicked" for what seems like the fourth time and "The Book of Mormon" for the 2nd time). I think "Newsies" is a first time down here so I'll be interested to know if any BETM alums might be in the touring show.

Check it out at:

That's the news from down here. No apparent excuse for BETM fanatics to visit Miami and the Beaches in the next year.

I think the deal with MTI probably did in the possibility of a tour for the time being. But I'll be interested to see if another tour manages to materialize in the future.

I think that overall, the takeover by MTI is very good news for BETM. MTI is motivated to approve regional productions, youth productions and future tours. MTI will only make money when productions are approved. As such, they will probably promote BETM better than companies that have too many other interests, like the past producers.

Here something interesting. A lady that represents NC theatre that is putting on Billy elliot said in video that there was going to be a tour but it fell through for a little bit and that why they were saying it was a tour because they weren't going to put it on themselves, but they got the rights to put it on.

That seems to sum up the situation - although I would like to find out the name of the company that tried to put the tour together.

It may be that it was having difficulties signing enough venues to confirm that a tour was on, before several venues had reached the calendar date when they could 'break cover' and announce their upcoming seasons.................a sort of Catch 22 situation for the proposing tour company. Hence a speedy decision to cut losses and pull out of the plans for a tour.
