A clip of the Dutch Billy's doing tap

Post by Zweaplight »

A few weeks ago the possible future Billy's did an interview on Dutch television, in the end, they did a little tap number. It's not the best quality, but it gives you an idea of what we can expect of the Dutch production, since the actors who will play Billy will be selected from this group of children.

Thanks for the link. :D That performance, plus more of the show where the boys were interviewed, can also be found in this thread:

That one is of much better quality. I might even consider going to see the Dutch prodcution. It's only a two hour drive from where I live, so it's a less expensive than going to see the real deal, even though I will still be going to see the original production one time or another.

Is Dutch your native tongue, or just one of several that you speak?

The way we talk in Belgium, or at least the part where I live, is much different than the way the Dutch speak. They pronounciate everything a lot different, I guess. Dutch is my native tongue though, but I find it difficult to listen to Dutch accents for a long period of time since it doesn't feel natural for me, even though it's the same language.

You are not alone. Regional accents are one of the 'signals' we use when 'identifying' people.

It is said that a Yorkshireman can distinguish a Seaham Geordie a mile away, even though they live not all that far apart.

I love the Dutch language, but it can be abrasively gutteral in some regions, for those from outside the region.

(If you want to test the theory that accents identify people, ask a Parisian what he thinks of a Quebecois, when both meet and speak French....)

A bit more on topic: some of those possible future Billy's are still rather stiff in their dancing. And some are already shining, like the right kid on the second row, you can see he's really enjoying it. But I guess that they still have all the time to become better and better until November is finally there.

In fairness, they have no 'seniors' to compare with, or learn from.

They are the first. They need time to grow into the role.

Which will be the case in the US when the Tour Billys can no longer be called upon for regionals.

It is like a traditional craft, passed down the generations........

I made an English transcript of the conference, it contains most of the conference, except for the interviews at the end. Some things that weren't very important aren't in it, and it's not a literal translation, but I think it'll do for non Dutch speaking members on this forum.
