I suppose that's the closest Lee Hall will come to Malverne, New York where I live. My town's name is named after the UK original with the e added for a difference. Still, I like this connection, cool! =)

Here's an interesting article about Norman Cornish, mentioned above. According to this article, while he was a pitman and a painter, he wasn't actually part of the Ashington group, and didn't like being lumped in together with that group. Furthermore, he apparently wasn't all that happy with Lee Hall's play:
He didn't much care for Hall's play either, telling one interviewer: "There were some bits that made me feel that it was a bit of an insult to these lads – because they were the best kind of working people who wanted to be educated. There was nothing silly about them."
