A regional Stage Production of BETM in 2009/10?

Post by kport »

This popped up amongst my alerts - a link to a production(?) of BETM by Stage Productions back in 2009/2010, in Stoke and Stockport. It looks regional - perhaps a version of Billy Youth Theatre - or perhaps more? Can anyone shed any light on this? If nothing else, the photos are interesting, and seem to be a little more than the BYT productions I remember.

Since posting this I did a bit more digging around and learned a bit more about it. Since it was brought back the year after, making it more than the usual BYT concept, does it not qualify as the first ever regional production in the UK? The sets look pretty professional.

Go home Billy wrote: but that would have been to seriously undersell a superb production.
It was indeed. I saw both of these BYT shows in Stoke and wasn't expecting them to be anywhere near the level of excellence attained. Aaron Bryan as Billy was incredibly good. What an Electricity he put on for an "amateur". To this day I believe he was "the one who got away".
I really must also mention that at her curtain call, Grandma exited the stage with a cartwheel. Now that really would be something to see at the Victoria Palace.
ROFL :D.

Certainly there were a were a number of these type of shows including one in Easington itself. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-OQ0B ... 20/055.JPG
They were all youth based for school age actors etc, so not technically professional, although they must have had experienced director/organisers. Also Redmand and Josh performed in this form of the show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzNQdJP ... bJ3XoejOeM :)

and another performance at Swansea Grand Theatre Wales, also repeated on a later occasion due to demand. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVR65YM2zyA
