How terrible! :( Sending thoughts and prayers for his family and friends, both cast and non-cast, at this sad time.

I went to see the matinee performance today. Liam Mower's final performance as Angelo. I was blown away by the whole show - dramatic, dynamic, so powerful. Of course, wonderful to see Liam and Layton Williams live.

But now I come home to this terrible terrible news. Can't believe what I'm reading about Jonathan Ollivier. Such a tragic loss. The cast looked so happy at the final bow this afternoon and I imagined them all getting ready for their final evening performance. So so sorry for all involved, and for Jonathan's family.

This is a sad happening. My thoughts are with his family and colleagues.

Among many other engagements, Jonathan Ollivier danced for two years as a principle dancer with Alberta Ballet. This evening, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation aired an interview with Jean Grand-Maître, Artistic Director of Alberta Ballet. In the interview, M. Grand-Maître mentions Billy Elliot several times and says that Mr. Ollivier's nickname at Alberta Ballet was Billy, in recognition of the similarities between his story and Billy's.

I recommend this interview to everyone. You can listen online.

Sadlers Wells Theatre Ballet The Car Man.

Post by walt567 »

It may be of interest to know that on August 8th,2015 I went to see Matthew Bourne's
Ballet The Car Man based on Carmen the opera.
Dancing one of the principal roles was Liam Mower the first Billy Elliot.
Also in the cast was Layton Williams also a past Billy.
Both gave an excellent performance.
I have been fortunate to have seen Liam in three other ballets choreographed by Matthew Bourne.
After the performance in Sleeping Beauty in which Liam was Count Lilac (The Lilac Fairy) I met Liam
and we were able to have a chat and discuss his performance.
Liam and Layton have both developed into thrilling dancers.
I was very sad to learn that the last performance of The Car Man on Sunday August 9th 2015
had to be cancelled due to the death of Jonathan Ollivier who was killed on his way
to the theatre in a motorcycle crash. Jonny had been due to dance one of the principal parts
but never arrived at the Sadlers Wells theatre.
