CHAMPAIGN -- The musical Billy Elliot has catchy music, political drama and powerful dance scenes, but for a performance in Central Illinois, they still need a "Billy." Camp Billy aims to fill that spotlight.

Open to boys ages 11-16, instructors through Twin City Squared Theater Group and Art In Motion Dance Studio will teach tap, ballet, singing and other performance skills. In addition, the boys will pick up confidence and gain an edge in auditioning for the local production.

The cast has been announced for this production, which is being directed by BETM veteran Donnie Kehr.

With a cast from all over central Illinois, the title role of “Billy” will be played by Tanner Carlson-Huber from Normal. "We ran a Billy Camp earlier in the year to see if our Billy was out there," says Producer Michael Galloway. "We discovered Tanner and many other talented kids in the area who will fill other roles in the show."

CHAMPAIGN — Hoping to find a lead to play the title role in the musical "Billy Elliot," Twin City Squared hosted a Billy Elliot dance camp earlier this year.

Ten youths attended. But the role of Billy went to someone who had not gone to the camp but showed up later at auditions: Tanner Carlson-Huber, a 12-year-old from Normal who has studied dance since he was 3.
