Kyle Halford: Billy - Drury Lane

I have seen Kyle play Billy twice, the first several weeks ago, and the last time this Thursday.

What a remarkable performance he gives! Kyle is older, but not too old (he does not leap in Jackie's arms); his interpretation of Billy looks at his challenges as something he can overcome with encouragement; his confidence is fragile but he is not downhearted for long. He is a fine tap dancer, as was evident in Born to Boogey and Angry Dance, and sang beautifully in the original key. In particular, his facial expression were powerful (often smiling), as were his stunning performances of Angry Dance, Dream Ballet and Electricity. The audience clearly were enraptured by Kyle's performance, breaking into cheers and applause at moment that I have not heard them before. In the latter performance, he looked like he was having the time of his life, savouring every moment.

I hope he has a chance to play this role again soon; he is very, very good.
