This show should not be attempted by too many theaters or performing arts groups. It is simply too difficult to find the right kids to play Billy and even Michael. Someone mentioned the regional productions have been almost as good as a professional ones. The regional productions are professional. They all held auditions in New York as well as their own communities. Many of the actors brought in were union players with experience in this show and many other productions. They brought in kids to play the principal roles who had a lot of experience and training and ability. Not every community is going to have kids like that available.

Perhaps this question needs its own thread?
