Hamilton

Post by ERinVA »

Lin Manuel Miranda has written the book, lyrics and music for this new show, based on the biography of Alexander Hamilton, that will premiere next month:

Oh, and he also will star in the show as Alexander Hamilton. 8-)

Ran across this article analyzing the faster pace of hip hop style in Hamilton that allows more storytelling to occur:

‘Hamilton’ Is The Very Model Of A Modern Fast-Paced Musical

While I wouldn't think the Billy Elliot story and/or miner's strike lends itself to such treatment, the creativity of BETM cast and crew may well alter that viewpoint.

Hamilton has just beaten BETM's record of fifteen Tony nominations, by one:

Have a look at the 17.00 mark of this episode of Maya and Marty, broadcast last night, to see a truly unique rendition of a number from Hamilton.

Just realized that none of our Forum members have posted a review of this show during the past year and a half that it's been on Broadway. Given how it's taken the theater world by storm, I'd be interested in hearing what anyone here thinks of it who has seen it.

For me personally, it's not a show that I've been real excited about trying to get tickets to (which in itself has been a challenge, I hear). My main lack of interest boils down to the fact that I'm not at all a fan of hip-hop and rap music. Added to that, I'm quite a history buff, but prefer to see it delivered in a more traditional, straightforward manner (Ken Burns documentaries, for example) rather than "re-imagined" to fit modern tastes and short attention spans.

Maybe I'll end up seeing it someday and hopefully find it enjoyable. That was the case with "Kinky Boots" and "Beautiful: The Carol King Musical" - two shows that I wasn't expecting to enjoy all that much, but ended up really liking.

Earlier this year it was rumored that a performance of HAMILTON would be filmed for some future use. The filming took place on June 28th, well ahead of the July departure dates of some of the key original cast.
