http://ashington.journallive.co.uk/2009 ... oss-a.htmlTalks are under way to take the hit play The Pitmen Painters, which is set in Ashington, to America. If a deal is struck, it could open on Broadway alongside the musical Billy Elliot, making it a triumphant twosome for Newcastle-born playwright Lee Hall.
Yesterday Lee said it was "very likely" that the play would open in America.

Re: Pitmen Painters to Broadway
Do go and see it.
It is a great show that people do come and see. Because it's not
just a show for adults, or just for children, or just for people that
like theatre, I'd say for everyone, and it's got so much emotion
behind it. Because who ever comes and sees it, feels the story -
so I think: it's brilliant!" (GM)

Re: Pitmen Painters to Broadway
For viewers in the UK, and more specifically in the BBC North East and Cumbria region there will be a regional special program on BBC1 at 19.30 on Monday the 11th of October.
It will chart the rise of the Pitmen Painters from it's premier at the wonderful live theatre in Newcastle, to it's well deserved opening on Broadway.
The program may well go to a national UK audience at a later date, I will post this information if it becomes available.
As ever the schedule is subject to change, but if I'm notified of any changes I will post here.
