Re: Kinky Boots
kinky boots is currently running a pre-broadway run in chicago. I happened to see the show tonight. what a great show. i think it is going to be a successful show. Catchy tunes and colorful costumes. Plus with Cyndi Lauper involved in it, then good things should come of it. I would check it out again once it come to broadway.
Re: Kinky Boots
Just wondered if anyone here has seen this show on Broadway. I saw where the two leading actors are nominated for Tony Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical. What caught my eye is that I knew one of them when he was in high school (Stark Sands) as he and I have mutual friends in Dallas (where he's from). In fact, when I was making a fun video to give to one of those friends about 15 years ago, Stark was one of the people who appeared in my video. I remember thinking he was a funny kid and seemed very comfortable in front of the camera, and I had heard he was involved with acting. Hadn't heard he was in this show until just now, so apparently his acting career is doing quite well these days !

Cool, Todd! And no, I haven't seen it but the buzz around town is big, and it's gotten even more recognition in awards season than I would have guessed.

Re: Kinky Boots
I would definitely like to see it. I really enjoyed the movie, so I would expect to like the musical as well.

Re: Kinky Boots
The cast of "Kinky Boots" performed at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. If you missed it you can watch it here. The lip syncing is really bad so don't look closely at their faces.

As in most of these cases any number performed outside the context of the show loses its meaning and can be confusing. Even so this still looks like a lot of fun. Unfortunately there was some negative reaction on social media from the parade's less tolerant watchers.

Obviously these nay-sayers didn't hear the line near the end of the song that goes: "You can change the world when you change your mind", which in BETM land translates to: "what the hell is wrong with expressing yourself?"

Re: Kinky Boots
Yeah, that's a tough one. On the one hand, I saw "Kinky Boots" this past summer and found it extremely entertaining and worthy of the Tony Award for best musical. The show contains just a few mild profanities, and the music is very catchy.
However, it is quite a departure from the family entertainment that's usually associated with the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade - such as giant Mickey Mouse balloons, Snow White floats, and high school marching bands. Not sure how many young kids were at the parade - or watching it on TV - but I can see where some parents might "have some explainin' to do" when they maybe would have preferred to wait a few years until their kids were older and could understand better. Of course, I'm a bit old-fashioned when it comes to this sort of thing, as I was even taken aback to see Joan Jett in the parade ! I was chuckling to myself and thinking, "Nothing quite says 'turkey, cranberry sauce, and Thanksgiving at Grandma's and Grandpa's house' like a performance by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts."

Re: Kinky Boots
I don't remember, but did the cast of Priscilla not perform in the parade a couple of years ago?
