13 The Musical

Post by atreyu »

Retter Entertainment has announced a production of 13 The Musical in March 2017. Thommie will be choreographer as well. The show will be triple cast to cover six performances. I have to think there will be some BETM alumni among the performers. ;)

The cast for 13 includes BETM alumni Jamie Mann as Brett and Jack Richman as Simon for all performances plus Ashley Lanzoni, Victoria Csatay, Violet Young and Liesel Landegger at select ones.

I attended a performance of "13" when I was in New York this past weekend (escaped town yesterday before the big snow storm hit, thankfully !). It was extremely well done and featured a great deal of talent on stage. Most of the singing was very good, although a few kids would have benefited from having the key raised or lowered a bit to better fit their vocal range. I understand the rehearsal was limited to weekends over the past month or so, with weekday rehearsals only coming last week. That being the case, it was a rather miraculous performance they pulled off, having the show triple cast and learning their spots, choreography and music in that short of a time. The lead characters - particularly the two lads who shared the lead role of Evan - had a great deal of dialogue to memorize, but they seemed to pull it off with nary a forgotten line or awkward pause.

Congratulations to Thommie Retter and Sean Patrick for putting together such a fine and entertaining show with so many talented kids. I was struck by the final line in the show - deliverd by Evan - when he says, "I'm 13 years old. And I'm just getting started." The same could be said for the performance careers of many of the youngsters in this show, as I wouldn't be surprised to see many of them appearing in Broadway productions for years to come.

Thanks for the review Todd. I was hoping a forum member or two would be able to attend the production.

It sounds like it was very successful. :D
