Hi all,
There have been rumours since last summer, but now it's official: Billy Elliot will come to the Netherlands.
Today, Stage Entertainment, the biggest musical company in the Netherlands, has announced that it will stage Billy Elliot the musical in the Circustheater in Scheveningen.

First, the Circustheater will have Mary Poppins (premiere 11 April next), then Wicked and after that Billy Elliot. As they're all open end productions, it's uncertain when Billy will start. Probably in about four years.

Always thought Germany would be the first country to start a 'foreign language' BETM. It's a big country, there must be enough talented kids to play Billy. But I haven't heard anything about it. Anyone?

I normally only read on this forum, but I just had to tell this.
Sorry that my english isn't perfect, it's not my firts language.
I was watching 'Wie wordt kruimeltje?' (Who will be Kruimeltje?, a bit similar to Oliver).
They had to sing Bliksemschicht, that means lightning bolt.
Maybe it sounds a bit similar to you all:

It has nothing to do with Billy Elliot, they just sing the song.
I don't think it's a good idea that Billy Elliot the muisical comes to the Netherlands. Or they should change the law

Child performers can only play 12 times a year, 2 times a day. Or something like that, I don't know exactly.
That just doesn't work. You need so many children. For other musicals they had like 6 kids for 3 months (one role), when the musical plays everyday (and not only weekends).

Haven't seen 'Wie wordt Kruimeltje', but I can tell it's a Dutch tv show, a bit like Over the rainbow, I'd do anything etc. In this show they're looking for a boy who can play the rol of Kruimeltje.
Kruimeltje is a Dutch book about a little boy, I remember it from when I was young. I remember I loved the story then. A few years ago, a (small) musical was made. There's also a film. And now they're planning to make a bigger musical.
In this Dutch adaption of Electricity, the boys who sing the song play Billy. I think the producers of the show want the Dutch viewers to get used to the Billy Elliot story

Stage Entertainment, the biggest producer of musicals in the Netherlands (lately a.o. Mary Poppins, Wicked, Sister Act and Miss Saigon) will start the "Billy Elliot sCool" this autumn, in anticipation of the Dutch production of BETM. The Billy Elliot sCool aims at training Dutch/Flemish boys and find out if there is enough talent in the low lands to be able to bring Billy Elliot on stage. After 6 months, in May 2014, there will be an evaluation, most likely with a go/no go decision.
So no definite decision yet on bringing BETM to the Netherlands, but at least an important step forward.
