My Ode to billy

Post by dancingboy »

I was sitting down at the weekend with little to do, no I am not on strike and I am not a writer, and decided I would try to write a poem about BETM. Should it be called Ode to Billy or Owed to Billy? Here goes and feel free to comment, good or bad I don't mind.

Billy Elliot the Musical is a show on in town
It will give you a lift if you've sorrows to drown
It's been on in London for six whole years
The audiences love it,although some will have tears.

The Billy's in London are Dean,Josh,Scott and Ryan
They are all brilliant, especially when they are flyin'
They might have to swear and they might have to cuss
But they sail their way through without any fuss.

The story that unfolds is one to inspire
About a twelve year old boy,William Elliot Esquire
He triumphs over adversity with head held high
Against all the odds he does reach his sky.

The background is the miners' strike and the closure of pits
The police and Maggie Thatcher are really torn to bits
The men they stick together, the family is drawn apart
There's only boxing for Billy, but he doesn't have the heart.

Billy's friend Michael likes to put on a dress
His motto though is, 'I couldn't care less'
He gets on with life as Billy does too
He takes up the ballet ( if Dad only knew!!).

There's no help at home as Mam's not alive
But Billy keeps her letter to help him survive
After months of hard work his talent shines through
His teacher knows he's special and we know it's true.

Emotions run high, both on and off stage
Billy's upset with Dad and stomps off in a rage
Angry dance is very powerful, with its crescendo of noise
But Dream ballet is sublime, full of style and poise.

Billy's ambition is the Royal Ballet School
But the audition's a shambles... not so cool
He dances again with his heart's desire
Sparks are inside him He's really on fire.

As he sings and he dances around the floor Electricity sets Billy free
Somersaults and back-flips are there for all to see
The show stops for cheers, more cheers and applause
It can go on for minutes without a pause.

In the end the strike is broken, the men go back to mining
But in the end, though,it brings a silver lining
When Billy is accepted into the Royal Ballet School
The family's back together, now that is a good call.

As Billy goes off he returns Michael's 'kiss'
An emotional scene that you should not miss
The curtain comes down and the cheers ring out
The best show in town, without a doubt.

Tell all your friends to see the show, there's nowt they can't enjoy
About the uplifting and heart-warming story of a twelve year old boy
He tried something different and went on to succeed
He stayed true to himself.. Are we all agreed?

You should post that to the reviews section of tripadvisor. :D

If you really want to know,by adding up half an hour here and half an hour there it probably took a total of about 4 hours, but i have no wish to brag about it.
