'Wide Open Sky' at the Sydney Film Festival

Mack Holz had a dream — a Billy Elliot-like dream — that one day he could be on stage. As a primary school student living in the town of Lightning Ridge in northwestern NSW, however, the chances for him to sing and dance were few and far between.

Two years ago, Holz, then 11, was one of 200 children from regional NSW chosen to take part in Moorambilla Voices, a program designed to bring music education to those who have no access to it through the school system.

Now 13, the singer, dancer and would-be actor is living that dream, thanks to his endeavours in the Moorambilla program and his starring role in a documentary about it, Wide Open Sky, which has its world premiere at Sydney Film Festival next week.
