The original dad, Tim healy, I felt was excellent for the part, absolutely excellent. One of his most recent pieces of work for all those WR fans was playing a security guard in Waterloo Road; the same show his wife works in (who plays Steph).

Re: Tim Healy
I met Tim at the 5th Birthday show.
He only had high praise for the show, and was proud to have been a part of it.
As quoted in the media, he also said to me that he was the only one who had not grown taller
He posed for a very nice picture, and gladly agreed for the this to be posted in the Gallery, so this will appear soon.
He thought the Finale was brilliant like the rest of us.

On Tim's last night, Denise Welch was sat in front of me!
During the birthday show, I wondered what he must have thought watching the person who originally played his son playing the role of Dad.
Actually, I've seen Haydn Gwynne at the show a few times, usually last nights of the various Billys she worked with, and I often think it must be strange watching somebody else play a role you created.

The Theatre Royal Newcastle is celebrating its 175th birthday with a gala today hosted by Tim Healy. The web page also notes that there will be a performance by one of the London Billy Elliots.

According to this twitter from http://twitter.com/#!/MattACampbell , the Billy that will be performing is Adam Vesperman:
"...Adam Vesperman from the London production of 'Billy Elliot'; Matthew Bourne's 'Swan Lake'... Allan Stewart as As Jolson..."

Re: Tim Healy
Tim Healy has just won a landmark case against the Inland Revenue concerning accommodation expenses incurred while taking part in a show far from one's home.
This will have potential benefits for all London cast members, as well as those in other occupational-related accommodation expense cases.
There may be a few people cheering at the Victoria Palace Theatre today!
Well done, Tim!

Not so fast -- the taxman cometh...back.kport wrote:Tim Healy has just won a landmark case against the Inland Revenue concerning accommodation expenses incurred while taking part in a show far from one's home.
According to this article in the Chronicle, a tax appeal tribunal has decided that the first tribunal made a legal error and should re-examine the case.

This could become an important landmark case. I hope Actors Equity are giving him support.porschesrule wrote:Not so fast -- the taxman cometh...back.kport wrote:Tim Healy has just won a landmark case against the Inland Revenue concerning accommodation expenses incurred while taking part in a show far from one's home.

I have been involved in similar cases in the UK where my employees had to reside in school property to fulfill their jobs - only to have in Inland Revenue determine that they had to pay tax on the value of the rent as a 'benefit in kind'. So we (and other residential schools with staff in essential supervisory roles) were recommended to charge them fair rent, increase their salaries to cover the rent, and permit them to claim back the value rent against tax. Even thought every employee owned properties elsewhere that they resided in during school holidays, and paid rates (property tax) on them, the Inland Revenue would not accept this solution, after years of legal tussles. Finally, we bit the bullet and increased their salary to cover the cost of rent and the tax liability (which itself was further taxed!) Of course, Members of Parliament are all provided with an allowance for a London property - I wonder if they are taxed on its value? I rather doubt it.
If Tim wins this, the precedent will affect many people in many occupations, including theatre. He is arguing a case that has been argued - and won, and then lost - before. I hope he wins. It is a nonsense.

Here's more information about the Great North Run Million Opening Ceremony:“It’s great news that acclaimed local actor Tim Healy is joining Jill Halfpenny as a narrator of the Great North Run Million Opening Ceremony,” Beth Bath, the director of Great North Run Culture said.
“He’ll be guiding the audience through the spectacular show, with a specially written script by award-winning author David Almond.
