BRAVO GIUSEPPE! You were really good as Davey! Both acting and singing. Had to run and catch my bus to New Jersey-really wanted to see you at the stage door! CONGRATULATIONS! Mike Shaughnessy

Here's a cute interview with Giuseppe by Live.. Starring You! which calls itself "a media organization that connects teen reporters with professional entertainers".

You might have heard elsewhere, but Newsies gave a farewell concert last night at the 54 Below nightclub/dinner theatre. The original Playbill notice is here:
http://www.playbill.com/news/article/19 ... t-54-Below

It was originally supposed to just be a single performance concert, but that one sold out so fast, they added a second one at 11:30 PM. I missed the chance at the first one, but not the second, so last night, a few of us went into the city for the show at 54 Below. I knew I had work today, but figured, what the hell, you only live once! Hmm...someone should make that an acronym or something! We waited on the sidewalk until about 11:15, and then all filed in and downstairs to the dinner theatre. I'd never been there before, but loved it!!! It was sooooo swanky, and I immediately felt like I was in a privileged place on the planet, as various Newsies cast were arriving and walking around while we found our seats.

This was my view of the stage (everyone has a great seat there).

Newsies cast past and present were there, and it was so cool seeing some of the famous Newsies I never saw, like Andrew Keenan-Bolger and Ryan Steele, among others. All 4 boys who play or played Les (2 past/2 present) were there too (all of whom I must say have INCREDIBLE voices which you'd never fully realize from their small roles in the show). Corey Cott (Jack Kelly) and Ben Fankhauser (Davey Jacobs) were also there, even though they'd originally only planned to do the 7 PM show. They told us they had so much fun at the first one, they wanted to come back and do the second as well.

And of course, because this is Giuseppe Bausilio's thread, I gotta tell you now about his part. Besides singing with the full cast twice, Giuseppe had his own featured number in the concert, which he introduced by explaining how "Happy" he was to be there, even though he was sad to be saying "Pharrell" to Newsies. :D Well, let me tell you. Giuseppe's rendition was awesome, and he had the audience in the palm of his hand with his great singing and stage presence. And behind Giuseppe were three backup singers (other cast), including (one of my favorites!) Andy Richardson. But we quickly realized they weren't singing "Happy" as a backtrack to him, but instead just singing, "Giuseppe" over and over. They performed it straight, no joking, and it was absolutely hilarious!!! I hope it shows up on video somewhere (I suspect it will). Some of the Billy fans will remember that at the Farewell Celebration for the Broadway show, Giuseppe had a similar situation with singers chanting his name. What else can we expect? He's a frickin' rock star!!!

Near the end, one of the Newsies was up on stage calling out his favorite memories about the various guys in the cast, and for Giuseppe, he said he'd never forget how every single time Corey was on stage performing Santa Fe, Giuseppe would belt out the number in the dressing room on his own.

The show went on until around 1:30 or so, and then we slowly made our way out and up to leave, but it was after 2 AM before we left, as the Newsies cast were all over the sidewalk chatting with fans and friends. Really special night, one of those awesome life experiences I'm so happy to have had! If you ever get a chance to go to one of these 54 Below concerts (part of the Studio 54 complex on 54th Street), do it!!! Last night was a special sendoff for the Fansies (Newsies fans), and it felt so cool being part of the relatively small group in attendance.

P.S. Working on less than 4 hours' sleep now, so apologies for not giving more details. Ask me here or in PM anytime!

Here's another video of Giuseppe singing "Happy", posted on his own Youtube channel. This one is from a closer camera angle. We also get to see a bit of his standup comic talents. 8-)

Giuseppe performed Yankee Doodle Dandy at the Newsies cast party at Birdland in NYC last night. What an appropriate song -- I've been thinking about him as a young George M. Cohan for a while now.

Giuseppe will be among the performers on September 21st at 9:30pm, as BroadwayUnderstudies.com has once again invited some of Broadway's most talented understudies to the stage of the Laurie Beechman Theatre to share their rare talent-the ability to perform at a second's notice. They'll be thrown into the fire in "Half Hour 5: A Last Minute Concert," a show where even they don't know what they'll be singing before they step up to the microphone. The audience will get to vote on what song each performer will sing.

I discovered this buried deep within another article....is anyone aware of this project?
By choice, Deffaa spent his one day off from rehearsals in the past week, in a recording studio, recording Giuseppe Bausilio-from such Broadway hits as "Newsies" and "Billy Elliot"-for a project Deffaa is developing with filmmaker Max Galassi, whom he considers a young genius.
