This is a stretch (I am totally baffled):

Some of the jokes that George tells before the start of the second act, (and the flat cap trick) in front of the red curtain, are old George Formby's double entendre jokes he told standing before the red curtain................hence why George in BETM is called that name...................

Pat

That's it Pat!

George Formby's real name was Booth but he took the same stage name as his father used in his own musical hall career.

And as a bonus question ....can anyone find the connection between this connection (the song) and something Stephen Daldry has directed that is unconnected with BETM? The connection is a who...

If no one gets it....you're "it" Pat...

kport really won it. He got the name of the film right which I would never have guessed in the first place.

So, over to kport.

To carry this investigation further this list of "directed by Stephen Daldry" is a first step:

Theatre
An Inspector Calls
Rat in the Skull
Far Away

Film (Excl Billy)
The Hours
The Reader
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

So, are we even a tiny bit warm to begin with :D ?

Yes...one of those 6 contains the link to "The Barmaid at the Rose and Crown".
Which is sometimes why I think maybe Stephen and Lee chose the line in BETM...or it may just be total coincidence.
