The BETM Set

Post by porschesrule »

Here's an interesting set of questions posed on Yahoo Answers entitled Reasons Behind the Billy Elliot the Musical Set that some of you knowledgeable theatre people may want to get in on...

It sounds like someone wants us to do their homework from drama class for them.

True, but the one answer I saw so far was pretty terrible. :?

I've had a link in my toolbar here at work for some time now, probably told to me/us by one of you. :D It's for the Networks on Tour set rentals which I believe the North American Tour(s) used. I clicked the link just now, and Billy is no longer listed.

http://www.networksontour.com/catalogue/

I did a search on their site, but though it comes up, no information shows when I click the link. If you look through their show archive, they do have Billy listed in that part of their site, but it refers you to this other website:

http://www.theroadcompany.com/

...which doesn't include Billy at all. Just conjecture, but leads me to believe the set...or one of the sets as it may be, has been rented. Sorry, I know this post basically tells us all nothing  but I figured I'd mention what I just found, or didn't find as the case may be through a quick look at these sites. ;)

I took the next logical(!?) step to see whether MTI had any listing(s) of the BETM set. I could find nothing. That would lead me to believe that the touring set may be gone - adapted, sold, destroyed - there would be little point in keeping it intact in expensive storage unless a new tour were on the cards. Perhaps parts of it are in a favela in Sao Paolo! Certain props, such as the puppets, Maggie's head, the bedroom tower/kitchen,could easily be saved for other productions. I would imagine that the main set would need to be drastically rebuilt to accommodate smaller regional stages; and that they would probably find it easier to make their own rather than adapt. I am hoping that either/both the MUNY and Oqunquit have acquired the more important props already, and will adapt them into their own productions, which can then be sold on to other regionals. The video I posted earlier in this thread clearly demonstrates that Ogunquit can, and does, make its own sets.

Whether from these or any sets, I hope SOMEONE knows how much we fans would love some of the memorabilia, and that we'd gladly pay for pieces of the set. My dream prop continues to be a collection of photos taken from Michael's camera. I'm sure a lot of people would love those, so even if they just started selling off small bags of them, it'd be a very cool show memento to purchase!

I would like some chairs for my dining room. Heck, how about a dining room table as well?

I think the chickens ate it. 8-)

Actually, I know it isn't, but I have always thought that the word should be hypenated: Co-op

I'll take Mr. Braithwaite's piano. It always seemed to have a very nice sound. When I get tired of playing it i'll climb up and practice my backflips off it.
