Since they were good quality bags, and lasted a long time, might it be that Billy's bag is a hand-me-down from Tony when he was a school boy?

I think the design was probably most popular in the 70's but similar ones were available in the 1982 Argos catalogue, which would be easily available in all parts of the UK. see page 80 (type 80 between the < >)

Debbie's "GOLA" logo bag used ain the Victoria Palace production is very simular. (Obviously Billy's would probably come from a Co-op Home and Wear type store, in the next town)
