Cilla Black passed away August 1st. I always felt there was a resemblance between Grandma's Song and Cilla's Liverpool Lullaby - the latter perhaps sung by Grandma as a young mother, many years before. In any event, I think both songs capture the bleak prospects of young working class mothers in those days:

It was written by Stan Kelly-Bootle (1929 – 16 April 2014), who earned the first postgraduate degree in computer science in 1954, and went on to a successful business, academic and folk music career:
