Brecht's 'A Man's a Man'

Post by kport »

Jason Babinsky will take part in Classic Stage Company's new production of Bertolt Brecht's A Man's A Man. Previews begin at the off-Broadway theater on January 10, 2014. Directed by Brian Kulick, and featuring new music by Tony winner Duncan Sheik, the production will play a limited-engagement through February 16. Opening night is set for January 30.

Babinsky appeared on Broadway in Ghost and Billy Elliot (as Tony). His film and TV credits include House of Cards, Person of Interest, Contagion, You Don't Know Jack and Law Abiding Citizen. Buell appeared on Broadway in Cyrano de Bergerac, Equus, The History Boys, Inherit the Wind, Urinetown, 42nd Street, Titanic, Tommy, Taking Steps, Big River, Annie, Once a Catholic, The First, Welcome to the Club, The Miser and Anna Karenina.

Jason Babinsky may have been an understudy for Tony on Broadway (quite honestly I don't remember), but he certainly was not cast as Tony, and I don't recall ever having read in any reviews on here that he performed the role. The actors that I am aware of having played Tony are Santino Fontana, Will Chase, David Larsen and Jeff Kready. The article you linked doesn't list Jason as having played Tony, and his Broadway World Theatre Credits page lists him as Ensemble--replacement, but not Tony.

My words are quoted verbatim from an online source. Curiously, the three references to him in posts in this Forum all refer to his performance as Tony, and not as Ensemble. Hence my allusion to him in that role, since that is the only way he has been referred to in the past in this Forum.

Ah yes, I see. I have checked and found that he understudied Tony in the Chicago cast, and some members saw him play the role there in October of 2010. He is also referred to in Cameron Clifford's thread as having played Tony on Broadway for several performances in March of 2011, so I stand corrected in that apparently he understudied the role in both productions. As I said, I couldn't remember whether he was listed as an understudy for the role or not. Obviously, he was. 8-)

I actually saw him as Tony in Chicago and thought he was terrific!

I then noticed he joined the Broadway cast, and I saw him perform there as well but not as Tony.
