From twitter: Elton John and Stephen Daldry are there, and so is Oprah. 8-)

One lucky tweeter posted this: OMG @Billy Elliot sitting behind Oprah, Elton John and Jesse Jackson. HOLLA!!! :D

Here's a Chicago Tribune article about Opening Night and Elton John's arrival on the red carpet:

Tweeted by Frank Sennett, editor-in-chief of Time Out Chicago:

Opening night of Billy Elliot was a triumph from where I sat.
Billy brought crowd to its feet when Billy Elliot did his big number, including Oprah, so, you know, a standing O.

Some tweets from random people who were at the Chicago opening:

sweetallie16 Billy elliot changed my life.

ThtrBob I thought my weekend was exhausting, and then I watched the young actor who played Billy Elliot, and it was all put in perspective. Wow.

Well, what a great evening. Cesar's ballet roots certainly show - 'danicn' boy' he definitely is. The show here has most definitely lived up to my expectations - and even from up on the balcony and further back in the theatre than earlier this week it is clear that they have now so successfully engineered the production to pack a real punch wherever you are in the vast Oriental Theatre. It is great to read comments like those quoted above from first-time visitors to the show – and it wasn’t only Oprah on her feet tonight, it felt like the whole of Chicago! Elton certainly looked great on stage weating his tutu in the finale, and to quote him from the Chicago Tribune … ‘It always makes me very tearful because of the sacrifice the miners made. I never get fed up with it.” He’s not alone there.
