You mentioned the spectacular effects (flying, etc.) and the music, but my question is, "Was there any plot, or was it all about hanging by a thread?"
Yes, I'm aware 'they' (whoever 'they' are) got rid of Julie Taymor. Foolish decision in my opinion!

It kind of loosely followed the first 'Spiderman' film plot.

You have to remember it is 'comic strip' - and not 'Shakespeare'!! So don't worry too much about the plot!

Regardless of what the critics have said, and regardless of what the producers apparently think, the show has certainly drawn the crowds, if not for the hope of seeing an accident, then for the spectacle of it all, so there are probably a lot more folks out there who think like you do.

I would imagine the same crowd that enjoys the Spiderman movies would be the same crowd that would go to the musical, which is almost everyone. No wonder it draws the crowds. It probably wouldn't even have to be any good to draw the crowds, just like the majority of Hollywood movies these days suck, yet still draw the largest crowds, whereas some of the best indie/foreign movies barely break even if they make any money at all. People are like herds of cattle. If Hollywood says it's good, it must be good. Not saying Spiderman the musical sucks. I haven't seen it. Just saying that it wouldn't matter if it sucked or not because it's Spiderman.

But with a live theatre audience, you are going to know whether the majority liked it or not, by the level of enthusiasm when it comes to applause and cheering, plus whether they get regular standing ovations.

Good point. I'd see it given the chance based on your enthusiastic review. But I'd still have reservations up to the minute just because I didn't like the first movie thus had no interest in seeing the sequels. The Batman series had more interesting characters imo, but that's neither here nor there. Glad you enjoyed it. :D

Finally a string of good news for Spiderman. Not only will it reopen ahead of schedule, but Christopher Tierney, the actor who fell during the Dec. 20 performance, has rejoined the production.

Broadway's most expensive and audacious show, emerges from a three-week hiatus tonight with what the creative team and producers say is a cleaner story, tighter music and more love story.

Wish I could go see it again! Although I didn't think it really needed changing.

I hope it gets the excellent reviews it deserves. 8-)

Nightline visited behind the scenes at the show for its relaunch. Very interesting interview with Bono and the Edge:
