I saw a feature about this video on ABC News this evening.

It was done to support Children in Need.

Sir Elton and his husband, David Furnish, will be honored by the Geffen Playhouse at its annual fundraising gala on March 22:
John and Furnish will receive the Distinction in Theatre Award at the gala. The pop star has written the scores to three hit musicals -- "The Lion King," "Billy Elliot" and "Aida." The couple served as producers on the Broadway run of the play "Next Fall" by Geoffrey Nauffts, which later came to the Geffen.

Elton John and Old Vic Productions launch theatre company with emphasis on musicals
Elton John is launching a theatre production company that will have a strong emphasis on the creation of original musicals, including a new family show that will feature songs from his back catalogue.

Rocket Stage is a £10 million joint venture between Old Vic Productions – the co-producer of Billy Elliot the musical, which features music by John – and Rocket Pictures, the entertainment company created by John, David Furnish and Steve Hamilton-Shaw.

OVP will invest 25% into the company, with the remaining 75% from Rocket Pictures. Under the joint venture, OVP will invest £2.5 million in cash over the next three years.

The company is being created to co-produce a series of shows in association with John, and the joint venture will have the rights to all feature films made by Rocket Pictures, as well as any of John’s future musical theatre projects.
This can be nothing but good news for the future of BETM.

That is the strangest thing I have ever heard of, especially since no one here mentioned it. Are there familiar faces there for real, or is this some kind of staged nonsense? Enquiring minds want to know! :)

I'm thinking they could be from the original production company "Billy London limited" possibly backers rather than fans? (from the way it's phrased.)
I can't see Elton sitting down with fans, but a share holders, and producers junket that's different.
