Among other perhaps not so inspiring musicals from movies in the works, Newsies, which could be an ideal vehicle for retired Billys, is actually set to open at the Papermill Playhouse in NJ for the 2011-2012 season (with a possible transfer to Broadway in mind, methinks). Stay tuned...

Ryan Steele, who has been an alternate Older Billy in BETM on Broadway is joining the new production of Newsies, which begins previews at Papermill Playhouse on September 15.
It looks like they are going with older performers who don't need guardians to fill the roles.

Composer Alan Menken and the cast of "Newsies" appeared yesterday on The View, showing a sample of the music and choreography.

Here is some coverage of opening night. It certainly looks like a show that ought to be on Broadway. Hopefully it will make the move.

Thanks for the link, Chris.
It certainly does look like a candidate for Broadway, which it is, from what I have read. I like that set. It's a bit like the one in How to Succeed with all the levels. Ryan Steele, who is interviewed at one point, is a former BETM ensemble member.
