Yes, Pat, you are quite right. The 'sum is greater than the whole'. One day some of our erudite scientists will come to realise that reductionism, and the breaking of everything down to atoms, is quite nonsensical without there being a 'master designer.' Your example is a good one - each letter in itself has no intrinsic value except in relation to the whole.
