Some Youtube clips can unexpectedly move one to tears, especially those that deal with unsung heroism. This one is about a true story; the protagonist is still very much alive (at 104) and is being proposed for the Nobel Peace Prize:

Like in the post just before this one, this video is sorta about BETM. It's the opening number of Gypsy of the Year featuring the boys from Newsies, with Giuseppe Bausilio front and center!

This is ample evidence why it is an outrage that BETM is no longer on Broadway, or the Tour.

Here is a great video about what it's like to be a male ballet dancer. You can imagine a grown up Billy Elliot being among these guys.

From another link in this forum I came across this clip of Ronan Parke, from the 2011 Britain's Got Talent. Are you kidding me how did I miss this kid? He was brilliant! And when he teared up at the end, I started blubbering like a baby... I know he made the finals, but does anyone know if he won that competition, and what's he doing today???

And in the finals he lost to Jai McDowell, who released one album under Simon Cowell's label, before being dropped. Meanwhile, Ronan has gone on from strength to strength, and still sings (in a lower register) today. (My theory is that the public vote had turned against 'kid' finalists; Jai won by only 3%).

Cowell is a clever man; these competitions - especially in Britain - always have a 'human interest' element to them. There was Paul Potts (now subject of a film) and Susan Boyle (subject of a Musical), but you may have missed two other early finalists who also set the country alight: a bullied treble chorister and a Northern street dancer:

There is more than a bit of Billy Elliot in both boys' stories; interesting that they both competed just after BETM debuted in London. Clearly, they all touched a national nerve...............

Of course, just one year before, this contestant was showing his stuff, before he became Michael in BETM and went on to star in Matilda:

Sure, Ronan is still around and was reported releasing a single a couple of weeks ago.
