Interesting how he pronounced his name here as Brad Kuh-VAN-uh, with the accent on the middle syllable. For the past 6 years, I had been pronouncing it as Brad KAV-eh-nah. Anyone else make this erroneous assumption, or was it just me ? Maybe it's a U.K. vs. USA pronunciation thing, and I had been Americanizing it all this time. . . . . kind of like "Lie-chester Square" (Americanized) vs. "Lester Square" (British) . . .for Leicester Square.

I found that interesting as well. I have always thought it was pronounced with the emphasis on the first syllable.

However, I have never pronounced Leicester as "Lie-chester." I think the first time I ever really had to deal with it was in Shakespeare class when I encountered the name, and the professor pronounced it "Lester," so that's how I learned to pronounce it.

We have some interesting pronunciations of place names around here. For example, Staunton is pronounced as though it is spelled "Stanton." And then of course, there is the Virginia family name Taliaferro, which is pronounced "Toliver." Now that's really one for the album! :?

There are plenty of Kavanaghs in the US. Some spell it Cavanaugh, but it's still the same name, and it's pronounced with the emphasis on the first syllable. I have no idea how he came around to that pronunciation, but I don't think it was "engineered" for the American market.

Agreed. I think most Americans would pronounce his last name with the accent on the first syllable as well. The only way they would pronounce it the way he did was if it was spelled Cavanna.
