With the announcement about Lilla Crawford being chosen for the title role, we should probably have a thread for the upcoming revival of "Annie". This article in Playbill says the production "will open this fall at a Nederlander theatre to be announced". The upcoming Broadway season will have both "Annie" and "Matilda" in the mix. It will be a great opportunity for young girls.

It's been announced (Broadwayworld.com & Playbill.com) that ANNIE, the new production of the Tony Award-winning classic musical, will play the legendary Palace Theatre (1567 Broadway at 47th Street) on Broadway. ANNIE will begin previews Wednesday, October 3 and will open Thursday, November 8, 2012.

Katie Finneran, the two-time Tony Award winner – most recently for playing a barfly in the 2010 revival of “Promises, Promises” – will play the alcoholic orphanage manager in the revival of the musical “Annie” that begins performances in October. The casting for Daddy Warbucks and other roles will be announced later. The show is scheduled to begin preview performances at the Palace Theater on Oct. 3 and open on Nov. 8.

As it turns out, Taylor Richardson, who will play Duffy, and will also be the understudy Annie, is from Providence Forge, VA, which is right up the road from here. There was a nice article about her in our local paper, The Virginia Gazette, on Wednesday. Unfortunately, the online version of the paper does not have that article on the site for me to link.

This sounds like an excellent casting choice! Anthony Warlow played the title role on the soundtrack of "Jekyll & Hyde" (one of the very many versions of that show). He has a very powerful voice.
