While Ethan has Canadian roots, he is not from Canada so far as I know. Of course, I don't have any idea about his citizenship, so I could be wrong.

Yes it was established earlier that he is from Georgia, but has Canadian roots. I would say half a Canadian is better than none, which is what we are now left with.
