Kport Asks :
"Is it largely set to music, as is Les Mis?"
Yes, it is largely set to music, several large production numbers with some talking in between.
"Why launch in Dallas? (Backers?)
"
I have asked folks that I know who are close to the DTC (Dallas Theatre Center), and they are not forthcoming.(don't know)
Just my observations and guesses:
1. The largest corporate sponsor is Kimberly Clark, which is a Dallas based Corporation.
2. The availability of the theatre for over two months for rehearsals and perfecting the final set
3. The artistic director and the managing director are both DTC employees.( not sure the significance of this)
There are a few local actors in the cast who I have seen in other DTC productions, but only a few.
The only other Dallas connection that I can think of is that Mary Martin was the first Peter Pan I ever saw and she is from a nearby town.
Ironically, Peter and the Starcatcher, the latest broadway version of PeterPan will arrive soon at the Winspear Opera House just across the street from where Fly is now playing. (where BETM played two summers ago)
