I feel like most of the objections to the possibility of a movie could have also been attributed to a possible stage version of Billy Elliot many years ago, and look how that turned out. Lee Hall and Stephen Daldry (and Elton John to an extent) have been the keepers of the BE story, and they haven't lead us astray yet. Considering they could have rushed into a movie version years ago and haven't suggests to me that they will only do it if they can do it justice.

Before the threads were merged I thought we were talking about another motion picture. If it's a movie version of the musical we are talking about, that's a different story. As long as it's well done I like the idea.

Yes, a movie version of the musical is being discussed.

In this article, in addition to talking about the corgis in "The Audience," Stephen Daldry is quoted on the subject:
"We're thinking about turning it back into a movie now. So it might go from movie to stage show to broadcast to movie again," he said, laughing.
