It has been removed by the user since I saw it.

I guess that would explain why the links did not work.

Was their reaction similar to the boys' reaction towards "The Odd Life of Timothy Green" ?

That video was priceless, by the way. Reminded me of my reaction to "Gone with the Wind" when I saw it for the first time when I was about 9 years old. It was being shown in a theater here for its 30th anniversary. When the house lights came up, my mother looked over and saw me sobbing. When she asked what the matter was, I said, "That was the worst movie I ever saw !" When she asked why, I said, "They killed horses !" At that age, I thought everything that happened in the movie was real, and wasn't aware that the horses were animal actors.

That was hilarious.

OK, so I finally saw the movie today...

Overall, it was good, good but not great. Powerful, moving and there were some wonderful performances - notably Hugh Jackman (took me a while to warm to him, but I definitely did!), Anne Hathaway (wow, truly amazing, and Oscar worthy, but leading actress? I would have nominated her for supporting actress given screen time, but definitely THE performance in this movie!), Eddie Redmayne (completely believable as the young, naive Marius), Amanda Seyfried (completely believable as the ingenue Cosette), Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter (great as the comic relief in this very intense movie - note that in the book, they are far more despicable, no charm to them, and they come to tragic ends, both of them), Samantha Barks (another powerhouse performance as Eponine), David Huddlestone (a cute and very believable Gavroche), Aaron Tveit (very good as the most intense and serious Enjolras) and Colm Wilkinson (a nice touch to seem him as the wonderful Bishop).

So, who is missing from my cast list? Why Russell Crowe as Javert! I tried very hard to warm to him, but could not - terrible, terrible casting decision in my opinion - singing was dull, and stood in sharp contrast to the passionate singing of everyone else in the cast. To me the character of Javert is extremely challenging, and if it is played well, the audience (or at least I) end up feeling empathy for him. Every actor I have seen on stage has managed to pull this off, especially Norm Lewis (who played Javert for the fabulous 25 anniversary concert), but Russell Crowe failed miserably. Enough said...

It was a bit weird at the beginning when people burst into song in a dramatic movie, but after a while, I got used to that. Overall, a moving show, faithful to the musical. Would I go see it again? Probably not, but I am definitely glad I went to see it, $$$ well spent!
