From Broadway Across Canada's (BAC) Twitter:
"Tomorrow is an exciting day for BAC. We have the Ottawa seasons sneak peek event and the opening of Billy Elliot in Edmonton!"

SNOW PACKAnyone can explain what the s. p. event refers to?
(actually the snow outlook appears "reasonable" this week, it's just the air temp. that is not reality-based)

Is the outdoor temperature low enough this week that cars and trucks have to be plugged into parking lot electrical outlets in order for the engine block heaters to operate overnight so the vehicles will start in the morning?!tzwicky wrote:SNOW PACKAnyone can explain what the s. p. event refers to?

Apparently it can get so cold that far north that as soon as you say something outside, the words you speak freeze in the frigid air the instant they leave your mouth.
Then in the spring when things start to warm up again, you can hear what you said earlier as your words unfreeze. No kiddin'!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm,
Since the BETM tour zoomed away from Sunny South Florida in favor of bringing culture to huddled Canadians, Miami-Dade County has remained a hub for superstars, models and various people tanning at the beach and checking out the surf. As in realistic weather versus (how cold is Absolute Zero anyway??) weather.
I still haven't found the local person in town responsible for the Broadway season at our own PAC (so I could punch them in the shoulder if he or she just got a flu shot), but I'd still love to hear why we could not get the BETM tour for all the snowbirds south of West Palm Beach.
And I'd love to know the absolute mechanics of why the tour headed face first into an area of historically horrendous weather instead of staying in an area where there ain't be any snow nor weather than can kill people who venture outside without 20 layers of insulation encasing their body.
But after all is said and did, bully for Edmonton for scoring the tour (by graft and corruption or whatever?), even though Miami seems to have missed the tour for the 2nd or 3rd near-miss in a row.

Can anyone remember if a Billy Elliot tour performance has ever been cancelled before?kport wrote:Tonight's opening performance is postponed:

Re: Publicity for Edmonton
As far as I know:
No.
The cast made it, so it seems, if cast Instagrams are to be believed. It appears the trucks carrying the set did not. If so, one would assume that insurance will cover any claims for the cancellation. I hope all those who held tickets are able to attend another performance....an 'upgrade' would be a nice touch.....

Re: Publicity for Edmonton
I went to the Season Launch Party here in Ottawa last night. It was quite well done.
Some of the cast of Jersey Boys was here, and the guy who plays Frankie Valli performed a couple songs as well.
And then they brought out the actually horse Joey, from War Horse. That was pretty incredible to see up close, especially how it takes three actors/puppeteers to bring him to life.
They didn't do anything for Flashdance except show a video. And the video did NOT sell me on seeing that show at all.
Sad that they aren't bringing Billy Elliot back... but not surprised lol
