Rob Ford the Musical

The crack-smoking mayor of Toronto, who has been featured regularly on late-night comedy in the past couple of years, will be getting a musical in his name. Watch this story about the auditions for Rob Ford the Musical.

And if you are curious about the real Rob Ford, he has announced the date he will return from rehab. Speculation is that he has timed this so that he can position himself as a new man just in time for the fall mayoral elections, leaving enough time to campaign, but not so much time that he falls off the wagon again before the election.

Well, why not? There was a fairly(?) successful yet controversial musical written about a former Cincinnati Mayor, on the West End stage and several Tours, a few years ago....

Well, we ended up with not one but two musicals about Rob Ford. There is Rob Ford The Musical and Ubu Mayor. Those of you anxious for the Broadway transfer of these might end up disappointed. See this Globe and Mail review, "The Rob Ford musicals: One tries hard, the other fails completely".

And, as you may have heard, the story has taken another twist. Rob Ford dropped out of the race for reelection as mayor due to cancer. So, he is deprived of his health and we were hoping to defeat him at the ballot box.

I just wanted to say that sometimes newspaper reviews are totally off the mark. I'm not far from Toronto, but I can't vote there. I loved Rob Ford: The Musical, although it only played a short run. The poor producers had to deal with Rob Ford announcing he had cancer just prior to opening of the show. They did some tweaks, as a result.
