Today I had the good fortune to see a matinee of this production before beginning my Billython. I have to say I have experienced true brilliance! Glenn Close was unbelievably great. The rest of the cast were fantastic as well. Originally this was billed as a concert, rather than a full staging. There is in fact quite a bit of staging. It's not nearly as elaborate as the production from 20+ years ago, but I didn't feel anything lacking in terms of sets, costumes, etc.

The theatre is the London Coliseum, home of the English National Opera. The place is enormous! One thing that does make it feel like a concert is that the orchestra is on stage behind the actors. It is a full symphony orchestra, and the sound of Andrew Lloyd Webber's score is a feast for your ears!

It only runs 5 weeks, so get your tickets soon if you are in the London area. Today there is talk of it moving to New York at some point. I hope it does.
