Yesterday BETM in Madrid sadly had to announce that the production has closed in Madrid. The final show had previously been planned for 5th July but due to coronavirus the show has had to finish early. BETM was first performed in Madrid on 22nd September 2017 and they performed an impressive total of 927 shows, only surpassed by Broadway and the West End. It's a real shame the show had to end this way without an official final performance. The production is still planned to move to Barcelona in October this year but with a new cast.

The Cast Pay Tribute

Post by Real Geordie »

It seems that BETM not only was well received by audiences in Spain, the cast also fell under its spell - and not for the first time .

Google translation below

"Billy Elliot, El Musical" has been one of the biggest hits of the musical theater in Madrid during the last 3 years of the undercard. It is a little over 2 months since Billy Elliot last brought down the curtain of the New Alcalá Theater, and for this reason, the entire cast that has participated in this production, from its inception until now, has decided to come together to pay tribute to his music.

We present "Always with you, Billy", a medley that summarizes in just 8 minutes, 3 years of indescribable emotions throughout the life of this musical. An original idea by Pablo Bravo, under the arrangement and audiovisual production of Quique González, coordinated and directed by Pablo Bravo, Elisa Hipólito, Paula Domínguez and Quique González.

Thanks to each and every one of you who have made it possible to carry out this work of art, we carry you in our hearts.

"ALWAYS WITH YOU, BILLY"

This announcement appeared today on the official website of BETM in Spain:
We regret to report that, as a result of the containment measures, it has been impossible to complete the training of the children's cast before the trial period begins. This period of training is critical to guarantee the level of excellence that this masterpiece requires for its staging, which forces us to postpone its premiere in Barcelona until the 2021/22 season.
