It was announced today at Chicago’s Wrigley Field that Billy Elliot will launch a U.S. national tour with an extended run in Chicago beginning spring 2010 before embarking on a multi-city tour. Performances will begin March 2010 at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts, Oriental Theatre, with additional cities, dates and casting being announced at a later date.
The tour was announced by two of the show’s producers, Eric Fellner and Jon Finn, alongside composer Elton John who said, “Chicago has always been one of my favorite cities to play. It is my distinct pleasure to share this show that I love so much with a city that has always been very kind to me.”
Tickets are currently on sale to groups of 20 or more by calling Broadway In Chicago Group Sales at (312) 977-1710. Single tickets will go on sale to the general public in Novemeber 2009.

Has anyone heard how they're going to go about casting Billy in Chicago? Will they dip into the existing pipeline of talent or start from scratch?

My guess is that they will use the existing pipeline. If the show is to open in March, they need to have boys who are already in training. I would think that rehearsals will begin sometime around November for a projected February preview period.
