Re: Chat About Australia Tour - 2019/2020
A "media call" was held in Sydney at which Co Producer Louise Withers stressed the relevance of Billy Elliot’s themes: the importance of family, the community and loss thereof, following one’s dreams, the need for tolerance, compassion and understanding and the importance of support and encouragement. She said the universality of these themes has meant that this musical has been translated into other languages many times.
Simon Pollard, the Director of the Australian Tour production, talked about the quality of the cast and what a pleasure it was to work with them. He pointed out that the four boys who play Billy on alternate nights were selected from 200 applicants in a process that commenced in September last year.
To showcase the talents of each individual Billy, five edited excerpts were presented to the media. The Stars Looked Down and Shine with Billy played by Omar Abiad. Expressing Yourself where Billy is played by Wade Neilsen, accompanied by Hamesh Monger playing his best friend Michael. Angry Dance with River Mardesic as Billy and finally Solidarity with Billy played by Jamie Rogers.

That's great article, kport. Thanks for posting it. I love reading about how cast members view their roles and the show itself. Justin's take on things is very insightful in a lot of ways.kport wrote:https://www.adelaidereview.com.au/arts/ ... -adelaide/Two decades on, Billy Elliot’s story of community, masculinity and coal mining still resonates
