Quite a brave choice for this school. I expect practically every parent would be a staunch Thatcherite. It's a highly regarded fee paying day school (with some free scholarships admittedly), with selection pretty much based on a testing so alot of the kids will be very bright from the intelligencia of Cambridge.

They certainly won't need any training for the "Tall Boy" part  .

Elton John is practically a member of the Windsor family - ergo Billy Elliot gets a pass. Not all public school/establishment types liked Thatcher. Nor did Her Madge or The Duke. In fact, she fell between political stools - the left loathed her, and the true blue Conservative establishment took her as a jumped up grocer's daughter. Most parents of current Perse students were in prep school, more concerned with conkers and Common Entrance, when Maggie and Michael Heseltine held forth. They probably saw the show at the VPT, or most certainly the film, in more recent times, and view the story in that light. That era - the 1984 coal miners' strike - is as old to today's Perse parent as is a Spitting Image rerun:

I think you underestimate how admired the thatcher years still are to our local Conservatives (the exception being the “Old boy network” who, as you say did not like her being from outside the establishment). I am sure any parents over 30 will know lots about The Baroness Thatcher of Kestervan (pretty much the next county north). She lasted quite a while after her 3 terms as PM, and there was much discussion after her death. I simply can’t imagine the Perse School Parents singing along to Goodbye Maggie Thatcher :!: .
Could this be why the UK tour never came anywhere east of Milton Keynes avoiding Thatcher’s homeland in the east and south east?

Elton is of course a revered, partly because of his friendship with the late Diana, Princess of Wales, so I suspect he is less in favour with the Winsors now, particularly with the heir to the throne.
Here in Cambridgeshire last year, Elton did a full gig in a local Football stadium - not quite like Maddison square Gardens.

A totally unrepresentative but video for you  (start at 2mins) .
