Short video clip (play again at a lower speed to see more detail - maybe better to mute in that case !)

An interview with "dead Mam", Jessica Daley, which seems to ramble into oblivion largely due to the questions asked. Thought I recognised a North East accent early on - turns out she is a Smoggy !

Director Nikolai Foster, choreographer Lucy Hind and designer Michael Taylor give a behind the scenes look at the fresh approach they're taking with BETM at the Curve Leicester production of the musical and explain why it’s as relevant as ever.

Here's another really good behind the scenes look at rehearsals at the Curve for BETM posted on their Youtube channel. It really looks like the show is coming along.

Curve in Conversation podcast - 0 to 8 mins and 18 to 30 mins. It looks like the dream ballet scene may be having a makeover.

On a quite separate matter, if you have access to BBC iPlayer then view the just televised series "Sherwood" (of Robin Hood fame). This is a dramatised series (not totally factual) about murders which happened in the aftermath of the miners strike (in the event not in fact connected to the strike), and how the feuds and bitterness still continue, even between families. The series is located in Nottinghamshire which is a neighbouring county to Leicestershire. The Nottinghamshire miners formed a breakaway union and were held in contempt by the NUM.

Nikolai Foster explains

Post by Real Geordie »

We already knew that this Curve version of BETM would be different. This video by director Nikolai Foster shows in surprising detail just how very different. Interesting and intriguing. How it will work when the cast takes to the stage we will find out in the next week.

Barring the occasional incongruity of design and the odd accent slip, there were moments where the production was verging on the edge of perfection. They succeeded in creating a true sense of solidarity and community at the heart of the show that carried through to the audience, who joined them on this electrifying journey. For anyone who has a love of arts, especially as a young person, I could not recommend this show highly enough. You’re guaranteed to laugh, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll probably cry too. The team at Curve have created something extremely special with this production and I hope every single member of the cast took note of that standing ovation last night, because each and every one of them truly earned it. Congratulations!
